Mack Anderson
Smith, Sr.
Aug 13, 1934 — Mar 14, 2026
LaGrange
Mack Anderson Smith Sr., age 91, peacefully transitioned at his home in LaGrange, Arkansas, on Saturday, March 14, 2026. He was born on August 13, 1934, in Pine City, Arkansas, to the late Jeffery Smith Sr. and Savannah McCullum.
Mack was a hardworking and dedicated family man who spent many years employed with Douglas and Lomason Company in Marianna, Arkansas, working on the assembly line. Mack proudly served as an active city councilman and faithfully maintained the city grounds for the town of LaGrange until his passing. He also found great joy in sharing meals and fellowship with fellow seniors at the Marianna Senior Citizen Center. He also served his community as a city trash collector, taking pride in his work and contributing faithfully to the well-being of his community.
On December 5, 1954, Mack was united in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Ruby Lee George. From this union, four children were born, and together they built a foundation rooted in love, faith and family.
At an early age, Mack dedicated his life to Christ and remained steadfast in his faith throughout his life. He was a devoted member of Church of the Living God Temple 304, where he served faithfully under the leadership of Pastor Leon Howard. For over 50 years, he served selflessly as a deacon, touching countless lives through his service, wisdom and commitment to God. Later in life, he was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ on December 28, 2024, by his grandson, Pastor Timothy Childress Sr., in Batesville, Arkansas.
Mack found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved gardening, watching wrestling, western shows, playing baseball, picking pecans and fishing. He was a man of few words, but when he spoke, his words left a lasting impact. He is remembered for his quiet strength, dedication to his family and unwavering faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jeffery Smith Sr. and Savannah McCullum; his beloved wife, Ruby Lee Smith; his daughter, Carla Smith-Brooks; his son-in-law, Earnie Childress Sr.; three sisters, Lenora Dodd, Fannie Nering and Mildred Smith; and five brothers, Jonathan, Jesse, J.D., Nathan and Willie Smith.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving children: Mack Anderson Smith, Jr. of Marianna, Arkansas; Delois Childress of Batesville, Arkansas and Dorothy (Everett) Farmer of Castro Valley, California; three sisters, Mary Green of Marianna, Arkansas, Annie Earl and Laura Smith both of Mississippi; two brothers, Henry Smith of Chicago, Illinois and Jeffery (Michael) Smith Jr. of Detroit, Michigan; along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
He also cherished the special people in his life: Ora Owens, Vivian Humbert, Fred McCullough Sr., Charlie Colbert and Clois Vaughn, whose love and presence meant so much to him.
Mack's legacy of faith, love and service will live on in all who knew and loved him.
