Obituary

Lula Mae Taylor was born  July 13, 1935, in Lakeview, Arkansas.  She was the youngest of three children born to the union of Edward and Bertha Cayton-Wright.  Lula was called into eternal rest on Sunday, July 16, 2023, at North Shore Evanston Hospital, Evanston, IL,  after a lengthy illness.

Lula Mae professed her faith in Jesus Christ at an early age.  She was educated in the Phillips County, Arkansas school system.  She married J.D.  Taylor on December 4, 1954, that union ended in the 1970's.  In 1957 the family moved to Lake County, Illinois and soon after united with Christian Valley Baptist Church in North Chicago, IL under the leadership of the late Rev. Clarence Clark.   Years later they relocated to Zion, Illinois and united with Mount Zion M.B. Church of Zion, Il under the pastorate of Rev. B.J. Gaston.

Lula Mae retired from the Veterans Administration after several years of dedicated service, she also managed a Cleaners in Waukegan, IL.  She saw it her duty to work the polls during election time and served in that capacity for several years.  In 1989 she moved back to Arkansas the place that she loved, and re‑united with the First Baptist Church under the leadership of the late pastor Leaster Webb.  While there she became an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star (Chapter 324) until her health failed.  In 2018 she returned to Lake County, Illinois to be near family.

Family was very important to her; she spent her life serving others (including providing care for  grandchildren and being a foster parent).  She had a comical personality and enjoyed entertaining others with stories of the past.  Lula Mae enjoyed completing word puzzles, crocheting, quilting, canning, and gardening.

She was proceeded in death by her grandparents whom she affectionately called Pa and Grandma West; parents Edward and Bertha Wright; brothers Al Jerry and Andrew Lee Wright; Sister‑in‑Laws Alma and Shirley Wright; son Dwayne D. Taylor, grandson Angelo Taylor and granddaughter Trakeila Gordon.
