Charlene Lanes
Bazil
Aug 22, 1951 — Feb 25, 2025
Fayetteville
Charlene Lanes-Bazile was born August 22, 1951, in Marianna, AR to the late Bennie Lanes, Sr. and Elizabeth Covington Lanes. She was the fifth child of this union. She was affectionally called "My Longhead Girl" by her father and "Lene" by others. Charlene accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age at Paradise Missionary Baptist Church in Marianna, AR under the leadership of Rev. H. Adams. Because of her Christian upbringing she remained active in church and was always sure to be under the covering of a Bible-teaching, Bible-believing ministry no matter where she lived. She was a member of The Historic St. James Baptist Church in Fayetteville, AR until her passing.
Charlene attended school in the Marianna Public School System and graduated from Anna Strong High School in 1969. After graduation, she attended Arkansas Agricultural, Mechanical and Normal College (AM&N) known now as University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff – UAPB. She later attended Draughon's Business College in Memphis, TN. Charlene went on to enjoy fulfilling careers in the health and education fields until she was forced to retire early from Fayetteville Public School District due to health reasons.
Charlene took pride in being a nurturing, supportive and loving "Sweetie" to her husband, W. Carl Bazile who she united with in 1987, "Momma" to her daughters, "Grammy" to her grandchildren and "GG" to her great grandchildren. She loved her family, and they loved her "more". Charlene was quiet and reserved yet warm and welcoming. She lived by the saying "Pretty is as pretty does" which she was taught by her mother then passed on to her daughters and other young ladies she mentored formally and informally.
Charlene entered eternal rest on February 25, 2025, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Her parents; three brothers, Frank Lanes, Johnny Lanes and Oscar Patton; three sisters, Quilla Lanes-Guiden, Donita Hutchins and Christine Lanes-Buford; her granddaughters, Jasmine Little and Summer Love and her son-in-law, Derrick (Rick) Nicholson preceded her in death.
Charlene was blessed to see and enjoy 73 years of life. Over half was shared with her husband W. Carl Bazile who will forever treasure the memories of his beloved wife "Char".
The sweetest memories will be cherished by her daughters, Regina (Kim) Love and LaQueecha Nicholson.
Her legacy continues through her granddaughters, Raven (Paul) Crowder, Kenvia Little, Kierra Diamond Smith and Kayla Bieker; her grandsons, Albert Lee Shelby, III, Kendrick Lanes and JeRayle (Gabrielle) Love; her great grandchildren, DeChaun Crowder, Jamareon Cooper, Isaiah White and Muni.
Charlene will live forever in the hearts of her remaining siblings: five brothers, Bennie (Pheliece) Lanes, Sr., Larry (Karen) Lanes, Derrick "Terry" Patton, Michael Hutchins, Sr. and Jerry Hutchins; three sisters, Lenora (Carl) Mason, Carolyn (Elias) Hill and Teresa (Carlos) Hutchins-Barton; one godsister, Stephanie McNeal; two godchildren, Ronda (Nathaniel) Townes and Adrian (Dana) Revels; her spiritual daughters, co-workers and church family will forever remember the unconditional love and wisdom she freely shared. A plethora of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends will miss her immensely.
